A Traveler's Narrative
Description
A Traveller's Narrative, written by Abdu'l-Baha around 1886, provides a summary of the early history of the Faith. It was first published anonymously in Persian in 1890 and the English translation was prepared by Professor Edward G Browne for publication in 1891. In order to achieve its overarching objective of establishing the moral, non-political nature of the Faith the narrative documents the period of history associated with the Bab and His followers; asserts that Baha'u'llah reformed the morals of the early believers and enjoined non-retaliation; describes the trials and exile faced by Baha'u'llah; refers to the Suriy-i-Haykal as Baha'u'llah's statement about the nature of His mission; cites Tablets of Baha'u'llah as well as the Kitab-i-Aqdas to present the teachings of the Faith; and argues in favour of the extension of rights to all citizens and for their freedom of conscience and belief.
