Howard Colby Ives, a minister of the Unitarian Church, recounts in this 1937 account the moving encounter he had with 'Abdu'l-Bahá in New York some twenty-five years earlier, describing an experience that had the effect of a spiritual "cataclysm" on his values and upbringing, a period that was to change the course of his life, transform his inner being forever, and "during which, while unaware of it, the doors to spiritual freedom were slowly opening" before him.
