Leo is the captain of the Almasi Academy basketball team and is determined to lead his team to victory in the upcoming East African Tournament. However, the rift Valley Vipers are the current champions and are known for their punishing defeats, but most difficult of all is what Leo pricks from the Safari Card deck - the King of Lions. 

The lion refuses to return to the deck until Leo helps the team's scrawniest member play in the tournament; One-hand Sam. Leo has to find Sam's inner gems and strength and redefine what leadership and strength mean if he wants to win the tournament.
